David began writing when he was very young. He wrote a small book, called Dr. Egnahc. Note: Egnahc is “change” spelled backwards. He charged his brothers 25 cents to read the book, and then asked them questions about the story, to see if they had understood and remembered what happened.
David wrote many short stories, some handwritten, some hunt-and-pecked on a typewriter. These were all written in the mid to late 1970s. He also wrote a few poems. All of the writing was bad, and he took a break from most writing, but continued to write genre poems, occasionally. He attended the poetry round robins at early Ad Astra conventions. His sister, Carolyn, invited him to attend the second meeting of The Algonquin Square Table Poetry Workshop, which was started by Sandra Kasturi and A. F. Moritz, in the fall of 1995. And the rest, as they say, is history.
David had plans to keep at poetry for 15-20 years, then switch to short fiction, do that for an extended time, then move on to novels. He kept at poetry for too long a time, and is now just starting to try his hand at fiction, and at the age of 61, this may be too late to start a career.
David plans on sending his short fiction out to genre journals starting in January of 2024. He has a set of beta readers that will provide feedback.
